If you have decided to purchase a Mac and are not sure about which one to go for, we have outlined a few key factors to help you make the right decision. Buying is Mac can be expensive and a long-term investment so it is crucial to make sure you are choosing the right one.

Cost is one of the most crucial factors when choosing a mac. New Mac Devices can range anywhere from $799 to well around $13,000 for the top-end model. Some incremental features like higher RAM and internal storage come at a premium and bump up the prices even further. Most devices don’t have an option to upgrade after you have made the purchase so with Macs you must buy a little more than what you need. This may cost a bit more but will ensure that your Mac is future proof. Expect a usage of anywhere between 3 years to 6 years and spec it accordingly.

Desktop or Laptop

The primary factor to consider is whether you want to opt for a portable system or do you want to go for a desktop system. Both have their benefits and drawbacks. According to statistics, most mac buyers go for notebooks over desktops. This does make sense from a consumer point of view as Macbooks can also be used as a desktop system by docking it with a monitor, keyboard, and mouse. The primary reason why people bought desktop units in the past was because of the higher RAM and storage within the system. It is a completely different story with the MacBooks of today which are not far behind their desktop counterparts. Both systems get regular computer updates to improve their usage.

Choosing Desktop

As of today, there are a lot of capable desktop options available in the market ranging from the cheapest option that is the Mac mini, iMac, iMac Pro all the way to Mac Pro which is the most powerful in its line-up. Both the iMacs come with an all-inclusive system along with a beautiful 5k screen, magic mouse and magic keyboard. These are ready to go right out of the box. iMac pro is the latest in the desktop lineup and is insanely powerful and expensive as well. These desktops that are being sold today have an option to upgrade their RAM after purchase but doing so may not be an easy task and will void any warranty you have on the device. We suggest you keep away from doing any such thing as long as the product is still under warranty.

Choosing a Notebook

This is the most popular choice among mac customers. As of 2019, there are a total of four options to choose from. Starting with the basic 12-inch MacBook, the new MacBook air to the powerful MacBook pro 13 inch and 15 inches. The choice here is a simple one as all of these devices are sleek and highly portable. If you don’t need a lot of computing power from your device or in other words all you do is browse the internet and send a few emails and are always on the go then you can go with the 12-inch MacBook. On the other hand, if you are a power user and this is to be your primary device that you are planning to use as a docking station for a desktop setup you can go for the pro model. Finally, if you are looking for a balance of performance, cost and portability then the new MacBook Air is the one for you. Be careful though, Apple still sells the older model with the regular display. Make sure you get the new one with the retina screen as the old screen is quite outdated and obsolete.
